This course is designed to teach CPR and relief of foreign-body airway obstructions (FBAO) to all lay rescuers, particularly those who are expected to respond to emergencies in the workplace. This course covers skills for the adult, child and infant victim and use of an AED Participants may include teachers, security guards, firefighters, police officers, and other lay responders (check with your employer if you are not sure of which course is needed if for a job). This course is specifically designed for lay rescuers who are required to obtian a course completion card (certification) documenting completion of a CPR course. This is a credentialed course. This 2-day course is designed for the healthcare professional who may be new to the acute care setting. Day one covers topics such as management of acute MI, cardiac arrest and associated treatment algorithms.
Participants are also guided through various teaching stations covering treatment modalities, airway management, recognition of lifethreatening dysrhymias and an introduction to the Megacode.
Day two is spent learning to apply the core material to actual situations through case reviews and practice stations. The afternoon will be spent doing written and practical evaluations of the student. Upon successful completion, the student will receive an American Heart Association ACLS recognition card valid for 2 years. Day one will introduce the student to the special considerations in the assessment and management the acutely ill pediatric patient. Lectures on such topics such as respiratory failure, shock and prevention of cardiac arrest will be presented. Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) is a nationally recognized continuing education program for prehospital emergency health professionals that focuses on the care of the trauma patient. The program stresses that the patient suffering from multisystem trauma is a unique entity with specific needs that requires an approach to treatment that varies from traditional treatment modalities.

The hands on AMLS course gives each provider student the ability to integrate the knowledge presented into a practical format for use in his or her current practice.
